The metro line connecting Kavi Subhash, Sector V, New Town, Dumdum Airport and Barasat remains incomplete as permission is yet to be granted by the West Bengal government for constructing a 366-metre stretch at Chingrighata. This link is necessary to connect the ongoing construction and allow continuity of the project.
On Saturday, BJP workers and supporters staged a protest at Chingrighata crossing, demanding that the state government immediately approve the pending clearance. Protesters stated that the delay is obstructing metro construction and preventing timely completion of the corridor, which aims to connect South Kolkata, New Town’s IT hub, Dumdum Airport and Barasat.
The Kavi Subhash–Barasat corridor has been under development for several years and is a key component of the city’s metro expansion plan. Officials have identified the Chingrighata stretch as the main obstacle remaining before uninterrupted construction work can resume across the route.
